Moment Engineering + Design Leadership

Shawn P. Kelley, P.E., President –

Before starting Moment Engineering + Design, Shawn first worked on the west coast as an engineer in Los Angeles designing foundation systems to help stabilize homes that had been constructed on hillsides and whose foundations were failing as a result of the 1994 Northridge earthquake.  After Los Angeles, he spent some time in Portland, Oregon designing a variety of steel, concrete, masonry and wood structures with a unique emphasis on timber processing and cold storage facilities and the design and repair of long span heavy timber trusses.  Later with TrusJoist (now iLevel), Shawn worked as regional engineer for custom commercial and national accounts serving as specialty engineer of record (SER) for a multitude of high profile projects across the country integrating proprietary glue-lam beams, engineered lumber, I-joists and openweb trusses.

On the east coast Shawn worked with a large consulting firm in Philadelphia designing school and municipal buildings, tenant improvements, parking structures, custom residential, churches, warehouses and movie theatres. And most recently with a large production home builder in Virginia he headed up an engineering department responsible for establishing design methodologies, specifications, and in house design for manufactured building components including precast concrete foundation walls, structural insulated panels (SIPS), panelized floor systems, light gauge steel and openweb floor trusses.

He earned his B.S. in Civil Engineering from Drexel University with graduate coursework in advanced mathematics taken at the University of Southern California and has over 10 years of experience as a licensed Structural Engineer.

Nikki Forman, Lead Project Engineer, EIT –

Nikki Forman, E.I.T.

Nikki began her engineering career by converting CAD drawings to computer code that could be used by CNC machines to create stringers, stair treads and risers for a wood component manufacturer in Alpharetta, Georgia.  Next, she designed SIP wall panels, and steel framed panels and helped to resolve field framing issues for large panelized construction projects in the DC metro area.  Most recently, working for one of the largest production home builders in the country,  Nikki served as a structural engineer responsible for modeling all new house plans using a three dimensional structural modeling software.  In addition to whole house design, her responsibilities included value engineering initiatives and review of all floor and truss shop drawings.

Nikki was valedictorian of her high school and earned her B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
